Oil on canvas 18 x 24 About 5 months I have grown fond of experimenting with gradient of colors, as well as interaction of different subjects, distance, light, life and theme within a composition. However, oil as a medium continues to be a challenge to me.
I had quite a struggle trying to decide whether to make the ribbon on her hair light blue or bright red, as I saw these two colors speak differently about her personality:
Red- She may have been the only child of the family, or at least the younger of her siblings. Years of parental attention and encouragement have benefitted much in developing her courageous character without the least sign of carelessness. She sympathizes for the weak; perhaps its for their sake that she becomes ever defiant to her superior and the unfairness she believes they alone created; always challenges their ideas and never cares to obey their rules. Her striking, though it is not daring to say beautiful, countenance and unchallenged confidence have always won her the justification to success, while her iron-like determination and burning desire of her heart never fail to keep that last spark of fire alive throughout the darkest times.
Blue- She has lived a life of tradition, not so much that she likes or agrees with many of them, but to set an example for her younger brothers and sisters, and to live up proper way of living of her proud and esteemed parents. Her life is, as she thinks, embedded by obedience and evaluated by her contribution to her peers expectations. Despite her remarkably gorgeous complexion and elegant bearing, she is a girl of few words, not because the lack of play time exceedingly encourages the development of her shyness, but years of socializing with crowd way out her age range have taught her to better keep her thoughts to herself. However, they are not suppressive enough to extinguish these thoughts
Although defiance is practically second nature to the former, it is much more of a struggle for the latter. A red ribbon could have made her character livelier, but blue gives it more depth.
I usually dont like to describe what is going on in my paintings because viewers can obviously see for themselves, and more so that I believe the correct interpretation is however the beholders would like them to be. So please feel welcome to leave some comments and criticisms for they are much appreciated.
I...am intrigued by the cat's face. What seems to be a classical painting in modern gradients is suddenly a...Wonderland illustration? I'm confused. But whatever the thought behind this, I love the colours. I have recently become enamored with using the entire rainbow and this painting is quite to my liking!
thank you for sharing.
